Frequently Asked Questions

Below you’ll find answers to the questions we get asked the most about our products. If you have a question, please contact us here.

Can I request samples of the chain and posts to check the size/colour/quality?

Yes, you will find the option to order a FREE sample of chain at the top of every page on this website. We can’t however offer a free sample post due to the cost/size of the item and the courier charges involved in sending them out, we would recommend that you purchase 1 post that you would use in the final installation should you wish to see/feel the quality of our posts.

How do I order your products?

All orders are to be placed online by the customer rather than over the phone. If you struggle with internet shopping then please email us your name, address and details of all the products you require and we can email you a order that you simply have to pay for online.

How far apart should I space the Premier posts?

There is no right or wrong answer to this question as a lot depends on personal choice and the space you have to work with but we would recommend that you work to approx. 2 meters between posts and adjust this spacing slightly to try and ensure an even spacing between all posts if possible. When running our post & chain fencing alongside a curved path/drive you may find you need to space the posts closer together so that the chain doesn’t cut across the path/driveway and actually follows the curve a bit better.

How far apart should I space the Temporary posts?

There is no right or wrong answer to this question as a lot depends on personal choice and the space you have to work with but we would recommend that you work to approx. 1.5-1.75 meters between posts and adjust this spacing slightly to try and ensure an even spacing between all posts if possible. When running our post & chain fencing alongside a curved path/drive you may find you need to space the posts closer together so that the chain doesn’t cut across the path/driveway and actually follows the curve a bit better.

How do I know how much chain I need to order for between my posts to allow for a droop?

Please measure from the 1st post location to the last post location and add 10% onto this measurement and that will be the amount of chain you would need to allow for the droop. (A 10 meter run of fencing would require 11 meters of chain for example)

What size chain do I need to use with the posts that you sell?

All of our Temporary and Premier posts require 8mm chain to be used as the the 6mm chain is far too small and will simply fall through the pre-drilled chain holes and will not be secured with the supplied fixings.

The Freestanding Exhibition Posts, Quick-fix 1 and Quick-fix 2 posts can use either 6mm or 8mm chain.

What is the difference between an End Post, Intermediate Post, Corner Post, T Post and Blank post?

The difference is the quantity and positions of the pre-drilled chain holes:
End posts have 1 hole and are used for starting & finishing a run of fencing.

End Post

Intermediate posts have 2 holes at 180 degrees to each other and are mainly used in-between two End posts.

Intermediate Post

Corner posts also have two holes but at 90 degrees to each other and these are used for making a sharp change of direction, gradual curves should be made with Intermediate posts.

Corner Post

Then we have T posts, these are rarely used but do have their uses at times as they have 3 holes drilled in them so they can be used as an Intermediate post but also have that 3rd hole which allows a chain to come off the post in another direction.

T Post

Blank posts look exactly the same as the other posts in the same range but they don’t have any holes drilled for chains, these are great for if you would rather use hooks for your chain or the posts can be used to mount signs/pitch numbers etc at caravan parks/golf courses etc.

How do I install the Posts/Chain?

Please click one of the following links to download fitting instructions for the product you are interested in:

What are your posts and chain made from?

All of our chain is made from polypropylene which is UV stable and will not discolour or go brittle in the sunlight. Our posts are all manufactured from the same grade UPVC that your window frames at home are likely to be made of so again these should not discolour over time.

Can I cut the plastic chain?

Yes, we use simple garden secateurs to cut the chain as we have found this to be the easiest method but you could also use electricians wire snips or a junior hacksaw.

How do I fit the diamonds onto the chain and how many would I need?

Our diamonds are designed and manufactured to fit our 8mm chain only, we have seen them fitted to our 6mm chain but it is not recommended. The diamonds are supplied in two halves’ and simply click together trapping the chain in the middle, once they are clicked together they are not coming apart easily so please be sure of the location before pushing them together. As for the quantity required there is no right or wrong answer and it is down to personal choice, we like to recommend 7 diamonds per meter of chain and space them with 5 empty links of chain between each diamond.

Do the posts come complete with a cap?

Yes, every post in our range comes complete with a cap and the caps for sale on this website are just spare/replacement caps.

Do the timber stakes come with the Temporary posts / Verge markers?

Yes, both posts come as a complete kit containing the relevant timber stake, the timber stakes that are for sale separately on this website are just spares/replacements.

Can I buy your products locally to me?

No, we manufacture all of our own products in house and we only sell them online via this website and eBay, to keep prices low we don’t have any showrooms/premises open to the public.

Do you offer an installation service in my area?

No I’m afraid not as we only manufacture and sell the products, most people who can’t undertake the installation themselves usually employ the services of a local handyman/gardener.

When will my products be dispatched/delivered?

We aim to dispatch all orders that contain standard off the shelf products the same working day if the order is placed before 12 noon. Please note we are closed Wednesdays so orders placed after 12 noon on Tuesday will not be dispatched until Thursday. We offer Royal mail and DHL Local delivery depending on the weight and size of the items purchased, DHL is next working day in most cases unless you are based in the highlands/islands etc and Royal mail delivery is 2-3 working days.

Do you sell fixings to fasten the chain to an existing wall/post?

Yes, depending on if you want to be able to unhook the chain or have a more permanent fixing we have two options:
Option 1: Use a screw hook (This is perfect for if you need regular access and can simply unhook the chain)
Option 2: Use a screw eye and a joining link together to secure the chain (This is ideal if you don’t need regular access or to stop any undesired removal of your chain)

I live local to you, is it possible to collect my items rather than have them posted?

Yes, you could collect the items but you would still need to place and pay for your order online beforehand and then contact us to arrange collection between the hrs of 9.30am – 4.00pm Monday, Tuesday or Thursday or 9.30am-2pm Friday.

Is it possible to have more than 2 colours in a chain?

Yes, we could make up any colour combination from our range of colours – pleas drop us an email with your requirements and we can put a quote together for you.

My postage location is not listed, can you deliver items to me?

The answer is probably yes, we should be able to deliver anywhere but it may be expensive if it’s not already listed – please contact us with your product requirements and location and we will look into the delivery costs for you.

I’ve cut my chain too short or need to extend/repair it, can I join chains together?

Yes, if you use either our 6mm or 8mm joining links you can join two pieces of chain together with a joint that is very hard to spot unless you know it is there.

How strong is the chain, what weight will it hold?

All of our plastic chain is sold as decorative chain and is not intended to be used in load bearing situations, however it is often used to hang items such as lighting, hanging baskets, signs etc. We have also been asked to perform tests for customers such as driving over the chain in a car to show customers how it performs under a cars tyres or hanging a static weight from the chain so it is actually a lot stronger than just a decorative chain.
